A really dramatic, monochrome picture on a fine day in the middle of winter, Phil, made all the more dramatic with the distant, craggy, snowy mount Blanc Massif range mountains in France on the other-side of the sea or river of stratus being in deep shadow, making them look quite spooky, with the highest point in France, Mt Blanc, 4,807m with a white cloud cap on. In complete contrast, the snowy foreground is in full sun! Nobody knows what lurkes beneath the sea of river of stratus! Rebecca Hill, Canberra, Australia

Thank you for this super photo ! The sharp demarcation lines and the undulated shape are like Asperatus (see also photo below of Bryan Roschetzky)

Great stucture in that banner cloud; terrific.

Quite captivating if you regard it as “just a picture” – but with the additional interest in the technicals of exactly what you are seeing here, this is an outstanding shot.

It is so incredible than i think it was in my dreams.Thank you!

  2. Majestic and deeply mysterious image, with great dynamic quality. Everything in this picture is in motion – even the mountains are more like crashing waves than masses of rigid stone!
    Thanks, Philippe.
