Hi Jimmy. Thank you for your comment and your observations. You are thinking exactly the same as me when I first saw the photo. But, I eventually concluded that the reflection in the office block is due to the lightning having come from behind my position (overhead), then struck the crane. I am open to debate on this and appreciate the time you and others have taken to study my photo. Thanks again all. :)

Jimmy Hamilton says:
Right, I have studied this photo pretty closely now and I agree with others that this looks more like it struck the cables in the midground as opposed to a crane in the distance. Looking at the reflections around the nearby buildings would indicate that the strike actually is in the mid area of the cables-otherwise the building on the left would not show the strike at all. Another indication is the white cube building in the centre of the shot being the last building to show light on its roof as you look away from the viewpoint. Anyway, it’s is an amazing shot!

John Rowlands says:
Superb image; really captures so much of what a strike is about!

Alex says:
Thank you all for you kind comments. Beate, I am safe as I live on the 15th floor of a condo. However, the floods are now threatening the city and getting very close. I dont think anything will stop it from actually flooding the city, it’s just a matter of time now. Biggest problem is getting fresh water/food. Dont worry, I am a survivor lol

Beate Blecher says:
Alex, your shot is a hit! I just hope you are safe from the floods where you live.
-
Alex says:
Hi A.J.Hidding. It didnt strike the cables. It struck a tower crane. If you look closely at the base of the strike you will see the yellow jib of the crane whch just happens to be on the same line of perspective as the power cable. My initial thought was the same as yours :)
-
A.J. Hidding says:
Amazing! 5 stars. It did strike the power-cables, did you have power afterwards?
-
Alex says:
ooops,,,didnt see it had already been added by Ian lol
-
Alex says:
Thank you bryan. If you look closely you will see that it actually struck the jib of a tower crane :)
-
bryan says:
I should add, I almost expect to see Godzilla rampaging in the background getting closer and closer….. Fantastic shot.
-
Ian says:
IanL/pp/Alex……specs are ISO 100, 2.5sec exposure at f11 And it actually hit the extended jib of a nearby tower crane!

"Cloud uses lightning for legs". Fantastic shot, Alex :D
-
Alex says:
Thank you for your kind comment Bryan. Its actually not difficult to photograph lightning. More frustrating really because no matter where you point the lens the lightning strikes elsewhere. But it does help to be in a place where there are regular storms. Try it one day :)

Very interesting I see the "bearded sailor" as a
woman with old fashioned tall wig. Sailor's nose is her chest. -

Hazel Polson says:
Looks like a big rat about to reach for a snack! I also see what looks like the profile of David Bowie with some ancient Greek hairdo! Oh, and a small girl peeking out from around the rat's tummy, with her fingers clasped together. A great picture!

Wlady says:
Hi! Nice capture! 'Ave' – says an alsatian to a proud poodle. But… just above and a bit to the left of the highest building there is a face of a bearded sailor. Congrats!
