A very nice tie indeed – thank you Agnes. I’ve now tracked this down:

    https://www.ebay.nl/sch/m.html?_odkw=&_ssn=ties-by-frederick-thomas&hash=item1a37d4b3d6%3Ag%3AsJwAAOSws6ZZ5gA9&item=112605836246&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=clouds&_sacat=0

It seems curiously difficult to find out how to contact an eBay seller directly, but after reading this – ‘We have a huge range of ties suitable for all formal occasions, weddings, office wear etc and also can create custom ranges of ties for schools, football teams, rugby teams etc.’ – on their eBay webpage I have contacted Frederick Thomas asking for information, in particular re minimum numbers, qualities (silk, polyester etc.) etc. Please note I have not mentioned the CAS or indeed any other club, society etc. I am myself interested in having a small number of ties made. In the case of the CAS, and if purely for purposes of argument we assume CAS membership is half women and half men, and if we then for convenience’ sake assume that ten per cent of the men sometimes wear ties, on the basis of 43708 members (the current figure according to the home page), if we round that down to 40k, I calculate 10% of 20k men is 2k men. If we halve that to be on the ‘safe’ side, we have a thousand potential buyers. Surely an initial order for five hundred would be an achievable trial run? OK, a hundred then? Maybe a subscription system would be an idea. I’m on a watch collectors forum that has a new watch made every year on that basis, following a consultation on possible designs.

Sorry to go on so long…
