Dear Laurence, no need for apologies at all! Imho there was nothing wrong with the use of the term bolt lightning accompanying the picture as far as I could figure out. Hygge asked to be enlightened about the use of the term “bolt” together with lightning and my reply was an attempt to do so. My English is not native, and trying to find out the exact terminology I discovered that bolt lightning is just common language and does not mean something specific like “ball lightning” (correct me if I am wrong).

It is fun to find out more about these subtle differences in meaning or in interpretations of words and language. So thank you Laurence for this journey through the subject lightning  and for the great picture and thanks Hygge for the enlightening overview of all sorts of lightnings.

He certainly does Keelin. At the same time he is wandering through this – to use your own new found word – dreamatic landscape.

Well, thank you Keelin. And your Softness of Greys is as beautiful as mysterious. A resting place for sure.

Like Michael stated: from one extreme to another and then in between. Now entering the journey:

It seems the subject enlightens itself Hygge and you even did it already yourself with the nice link to a site with an explanation of different kind of lightnings. So thanks for that link.

Also googling around I found that bolt lightning does not appear to be any specific kind of lightning in English language, except for the Usain kind of lightning. And that is what you also seemed to have found googling on the subject, Hygge. I suppose Laurence did not mean differently?

Spectacular picture over Poznan anyway Laurence!

Nice experiment with rotations Keelin. The portrait picture has something majestic to me, while the landscape one unveiled an otherworldly shark to me.I like them.

This reminded me of experiments I did with converting Black and White to White and Black. I found out that in most cases the result disappoints or does not offer something extra, but sometimes a striking new composition pops up. Next one is an example I liked and it stays close to the otherworldly theme I think.

Great composition Keelin and what a mighty Ridge by Michael. We share clouds over continents and are able to view far beyond our horizons exchanging our pictures. It gives me

Tank you for the link Laurence and your beautiful story about cirrus clouds that make you remember the finest of Maidens Hair. I appreciated your openhearted story and I really hope you like next picture I spotted a few months ago.

Very nice Sprinklers Keelin, the Study of One is looking at it with mouth wide open! I love them both.

It is hard to imagine the hot and slimy circumstances of Phoenix from where I am living. It is a world of extremes in the desert with no clouds at all for weeks and then the overwhelming kind of clouds we know from the pictures of Michael on the gallery. Monsoon season?

Today the Cloud-a-Day surprised me with information about Alfred Stieglitz and his Equivalence project.  Amazing! I like to think we honor his heritage in our thread of B&W’s.

As to the typo in the title Hygge, I was confused a bit. Now I am sure and you meant cloudshapes (to be different from cloudscapes). I made them clouscapes in my reply and thus added a typo to the typo in the title of the topic. You must know that the word “clou” in Dutch language means punch-line, so at first sight there seemed to be an extra level involved in the wordplay for me. But that’s no excuse for me, the word clouscapes made no sense. In English the punchline was in the shapes and not in the clou nor the scapes.

So we end with cloudshapes, which is a very nice new word you introduced in the lansdscape of cloud terminology.

    Thanks,

    H.

Monsoon bomb, but not exploding yet. It looks like the extreme temperatures are gone now Michael (at least I hope so for you).

Yes the fleeting moments. The occasions that you I were in time to catch a striking cloud configuration with my camera I forget, but I always remember the ones that I am too late.. Grrr.
