Taken by photographer, Mr Mike Cohen, in Rhode Island, USA, 2 weeks ago comes this remarkable image of a sun pillar at upper tangent arc.  Here is the image accompanied by a brief concise and informative explanation about how this type of event occurs.  It is rare – wonderfully captured!

Thank you, Mike Cohen, and for sharing this upon the NASA APOD website.

Thanks for sharing this pillar and tangent arc Laurence. You always remember me to check the NASA APOD’s. I do the same with atoptics and to my surprise I see today this OPOD on atoptics. Maybe you are interested to find more details of the explanation:

      Dear Hans

      Greetings!

Thanks very much so for your posting.

I have examined the link you thoughtfully provided – and it certainly makes for some really interesting reading.  Already I have learnt things today that previously I had not really known much about.  You have, dear Sir, educated me most nicely.  Thank you, Hans.

The posting by Hans and other CAS members  is what I really like about the CAS – about learning about our clouds and meteorological phenomenon which never fails to disappoint or dismay.

I would certainly beseech CAS members to read Hans’s posting and enter the link he has provided.  It is well worth the reading!

      Dear Laurence,

I am glad you liked the link I provided but it is too much honor to say I educated you. It is the unsurpassed website atoptics that provides the education, and I must say also my education.

It is also really nice to recommend the site to everybody who is interested. That’s what CAS is also about: always something to learn. I love it.

      Hans
