ParticipantWe are, I feel, praying for much needed rain.
My five 55 (UK) gallon water butts are bone dry! Not known that since 1995! Three months ago in March with all the snow and heavy rain I was, lamentably, dumping rain water. Too much rain to cope with. Nowhere else to put it. What a change – in just 3 months!
As and when much needed rain comes have you noticed and smelt he refreshing welcome smell of rain? It is lovely and refreshing smell, like the smell on newly mown healthy grass – that said, during this drought, no smell of green grass. Here in Yate, south Gloucestershire, all is bone dry and grass the colour of straw. All looking very sickly!
Read on about this thing called, “Petrichor”.

Hans StockerParticipantOver here in the Netherlands it is also already for too long too dry Laurence. Rather troublesome but the weather-news mostly emphasizes the fun side of it. We still have to wait for the smell of petrichor! I look forward to it.

ParticipantHi Hans
Thanks for your always welcome reply.
I get reports from my friends in continental Europe and they are all telling me of the sort of weather you are experiencing in the Netherlands.
In UK the month of June has, according to our Met Office, been the driest since 1929. I thought the dreadful heat waves and ghastly high temperatures we suffered in 1976, and even worse, 1991 were bad enough. I hope 2018 will not be a repeat or even worse!
I have not seen hardly any clouds in the sky for ages. One looks up to bland boring “wall to wall” blue uninteresting sky. This certainly attains well to the CAS’s strivence, “Fighting the banality of blue sky” etc.

ParticipantA hint of petrichor today at Jn7 of M27, but fleeting and it remained dry beneath the trees.
