ParticipantVolume VIII was indeed outstanding from 1 to 100 with many to linger over in nostalgic review even as we take off again, opening with two fresh beauties. Thank you, Michael, for an exciting hello to IX!
There was something in the posture of the trees below that gave me the feeling of them bidding au revoir to their golden friend.
See You Tomorrow!

ParticipantWow, a lot of lovely sunsets above. I love your Plum Pudding, Ruth. Love the contrast between the hillside with the purples and pinks in the sky. I just would like to cut off the little part of the hillside bottom left, and it will be an even more perfect image. I also the masterpieces #905 en #906 by Michael.

ParticipantIncredible photos everyone!
I do have a question for you Ruth: what part of Montana do you happen to live in/near? I have been to Montana a few times and I think it is a very beautiful state. It has a big sky for sure :)
Anyways, here is my contribution for today (and the sun is actually about to set here now, so I will have to do my daily walt to try to capture some more). It was taken a couple of days ago, and I think it is one of my favorites.
Hope you enjoy!
Greg

ParticipantMy aunt gifted me a Cloud Appreciation Society membership, and I received my first cloud email today. I love it! After browsing through the Gallery here, and through Forum pics, I was inspired to go through some of my own photos looking for “cloud pictures”. I quickly realized that a lot of photos that are not “cloud pictures” would be half as interesting if it weren’t for the clouds in the background. I don’t know if this is sufficiently cloud-centric to be valued by other folks here, but this is a photo I took in Mérida, Mexico, that exemplifies what I’m describing: the play of light off the clouds, and their variety of shapes and textures, really make this photo.

ParticipantWelcome Mark, you spotted a beautiful cloudscape with nice red colors at the horizon. Like Ruth I like the bird that hovers above the scenery. I know she also likes to spot birds in a cloudy environment. I know this is not a bird watching site but do you know what bird it was?
Great Evening Delight Ruth. Just the last glimpse of the sun.
Here’s a sunset without birds.

ParticipantWelcome to the CAS forum, Mark! Your comment about how clouds enhance other objects in a scene is well supported by the lovely photo you posted here, adding a distinctly felt sense of quiet beauty.
Ah, Michael, the first of many more to come. I could dream on those soft cloud pillows.
Ruth, you have quite the view from your deck there. What a way to begin the morning.
And Hans, I would like to be a bird in your sunset photo. Any branch of that tree would do for a rest and reflection on the day.
It might look as if the sun has slipped out of place in the photo below, but it’s just the bulb of a lamp taking over the lighting of a garden path.

ParticipantI need to give the “Back In Time” credit to my friend Peter Shea. Peter and my husband had retirement backpack trip in the Wind River Range in Wyoming. Needless to say the scenery was spectacular and Peter caught some beautiful pictures of their trip. I felt this was too beautiful of a sunset to not share. Thanks Peter

ParticipantRobert. I suggest the two lower darker clouds are undulatus as most of the clouds in the photo are. That they are 90 degrees opposed to the other makes sense. The winds that create undulatus are thought to be chaotic. When I see undulatus I see swirling currents of air at various speeds and directions. creating the cloud feature. The two clouds are not part of the main body so winds at the edges are doing their own creations. The other possibility is that they are lenticulars. Im use to seeing lenticulars in mass, not just a one or two. Nice shot capturing the purples of sunset!

ParticipantRuth, I keep going back for another sip of your After Dinner Drink (delicious!) then have to revisit Back in Time. Your latest is also a fine beauty.
Thanks, Michael, and what a fine catch on #992! Reminds me of a school of sardines on the move. I know that type of scene is not easy to capture with such clarity. You have the touch!
Love those subtle purplish hues in your Washington sunset, Robert. There’s a clean fresh look to the sky there that makes me want to breathe deeply.
