From the BBC’s Weather Watchers website come 14 photos portraying a nice variety of summery skies during the recent heat wave.

Must say, I love the fine cirrus (Maiden Hair0 clouds – so fine, so delicate and beautiful.

Thank you for posting the link, Laurence! The cirrus shown in this series are my favorite too.

My pleasure, Keelin. Glad you liked the posting.
As an aside, I am a lover of classical music along with other types of music – my musical tastes are quite broad.
Thus said, in my funny ways, I often liken clouds to musical instruments.
Examples – my biggest favourite cloud is the majesterial, mighty and powerful Cumulonimbus (the “Anvil” or “Cauliflower” shaped cloud) – I liken this to the mighty organ, the King of all instruments given its sheer power and at the same time oh so quiet delicacy. Likewise, I am, by way of contrast, fascinated and enchanted by the fine Cirrus clouds, especially those resembling the finest of Maidens Hair, which I liken to the harp.
I am now retired but in my many jobs beforehand was for quite some while a ladies hairdresser. One lady in particular I specially liked to attend to was one who had truly beautiful fine, fine hair – a real pleasure to comb and do it really proud. She always made a “bee-line” to me to get her fine hair given special TLC. Her hair colour was beautiful natural deep ginger / conker brown. Luscious colour, luxuriant and in abundance of growth!

Just checked the link, nice pics. I like the most the cirrus one with the halo. But I am surprised nobody noticed the relatively rare cloud punches in the two cirrocumulus pics.

Tank you for the link Laurence and your beautiful story about cirrus clouds that make you remember the finest of Maidens Hair. I appreciated your openhearted story and I really hope you like next picture I spotted a few months ago.

Thank you kindly, Hans. Your posting of the photo is much appreciated by me.
Maidens Hair – I may be quite wrong about this but I have read ages ago that the hair of a lady is something like 10,000 times finer than that of a man – that is the intrinsic allure of a woman’s hair to the eyes of a man. There is the saying, “A woman’s hair is her crowning glory”. I certainly go along with that.
Likewise, the sensitivity of a woman’s hand is so much finer compared to a man. I know car manufacturer Honda or some other Japanese concern, specially employed ladies to run their hands over newly painted cars ready for export and if they found the slightest blip, blemish, bubble, blister, pimple etc the car would be sent back the paint shop for complete strip down and repaint and further re-examination.
Best wishes.

Laurence, your likening musical instruments to cloud formations reminded me of something I recently read about Stieglitz’s Equivalents series:
<quote source: Wikipedia> He told his wife Georgia O’Keeffe “I wanted a series that when seen by Ernest Bloch (the great composer) he would exclaim: Music! Music! Man, why that is music! How did you ever do that? And he would point to violins and flutes, and oboes, and brass…” He first exhibited this series in 1923 in his one-man show at the Anderson Galleries in New York, and reported that when Bloch saw them there he had exactly the reaction Stieglitz had wanted. <end quote>
When I looked up and saw this sky, I could have sworn I heard a symphony!

Hello Keelin
Thank you very much for your welcome reply.
Your reply made my “grey cells” do a wee bit of overtime as regards lovely images of Cirrus clouds and then this one came to mind.
The photo, contained in the link below, comes from member, Rosie Green, who took this lovely shot over The Dingles, west county Kerry, Ireland. It featured, pleased to say, in the CAS calendar in 2015 or maybe 2016. It is a lovely shot. Maiden’s Hair par excellence!
