ParticipantWell, some clouds do have a silver lining and they are a few of my favourite things – so I optimistically entitled this thread Volume I

George PreoteasaParticipantDoes it have to be a storm cloud?

-
January 29, 2018 at 10:55 am #256204
Hans StockerParticipantFor me it don’t have to be storm clouds George. Very nice silver lining you captured.

ParticipantThank you for a great start, George and Hans.
No, as Hans says, no constraints like storm clouds, just share whatever the thought brings to your mind. Back catalogues are OK too.
George your picture is complex and fascinating – almost a grey Kelvin-Helmholtz on the upper right (I have never seen K-H pix other than in white).
And Hans, what a contrasting background above the Cu.

Patricia L KeelinParticipantThanks for a fun new topic, Hygge ~~ and it looks to be off to a beautiful start. This one’s a bit on the rough, uneven side as far as a lining edge goes, but the brightness behind the darkness looked ever promising.

Hans StockerParticipantFunny this new topic Hygge. Everyone seems to have some examples in hers or his backlog. So do I.
By the way: for KH being not white just check the gallery and you will find colored examples.

ParticipantReally enjoying this thread – I am beginning to think silver linings are perhaps relatively common. But only captured by OOPs (Outstanding Observer/Photographers like Hans).
-
February 13, 2018 at 9:06 am #258648
Hans StockerParticipantThank you kindly for the compliment Hygge. Since you sated this topic I am more alert for situations with silver linings. One has to watch for a situation where large cumuli are going to hide the sun, the kind of sky we are both rather familiar with I suppose. With a tele you will find out that lots of iridescent colors occur at the rim. The silver linings themselves are more for the wider shots in which the colors are to minor to distinguish. It is fun examining these situations for nice shots. So thanks for making me alert!
Here under another example.

Patricia L KeelinParticipantThese images are absolutely stunning in every color. Here’s one without the classic thin line, but still with the backlit quality that delivers dramatic appeal.

March 3, 2018 at 4:04 pm #261424
Patricia L KeelinParticipantFantastic images, George and Hans! Interesting to notice how the eye is drawn to the light, no matter how thin the line or the volume of darkness that it outlines.

Michael LerchParticipantYes Keelin, hence the olde saying,, every dark cloud etc…Much like Hope. It took me a while but I finally found an appropriate shot, I think.

Hans StockerParticipantWow, that was worth waiting for Michael. Very nice distinct crepesculars ans some seasoning too :).

-

Patricia L KeelinParticipantWow, Michael, you’ve captured the feeling of absolute elation! And Hans, that crisp golden glow is outstanding. I would like to hike along that illuminated ridge.
Just a bit of outline in the image below — a work in progress.

April 17, 2018 at 10:53 pm #269932
Patricia L KeelinParticipantThank you, Hans! Alas, that cloud vase is still empty, although your Red Rim looked promising. Been a while since I’ve seen any serious silver linings here. I must take a lesson instead from my feathered friend in the image below.

ParticipantHello Hygge and all… this is my first post in about 3 years and I just wanted to say what joy it brought me to see all your simply stunning photos and read the delight in your responses to each other!! Thank you all! Now I must go look outside for some silver lining… (there should be a good quarter-moon tonight…)

ParticipantCatherine, I would add my welcome back to that of Hans who is one of those making this thread everything I had hoped for.
Four days on and the moon in Hampshire, UK, is full tomorrow – it changes fast – so we might see a silver moon lining. And it is accompanied right now in the south by Jupiter, I think, with Venus low in the northwest.
