ParticipantHans, I could not resist this
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/incredible-image-shows-group-of-starlings-in-shape-of-giant-bird-daniel-biber-a8138216.htmlN.B. I am typing this in ‘Text’ mode since I can not get a cursor in Visual mode (although there was no problem with the title). Also, I was going to post this link in the Sunsets and Sunrises thread in reply to Hans’ comment on murmurations – but again could not get a cursor.
Lastly I am sad to say that Hampshire County Council, UK, was reported in the media last week as cutting down a row of pine trees behind a Police Station/Fire Station to prevent starlings roosting. Apparently it was at police request because bird droppings on police cars slowed response times.

ParticipantWow Hygge, that is an amazing picture. A bird of birds. Thanks for sharing.
I bet you are also a fan of the BBC series Winterwatch, Springwatch and Autumnwatch. In the last episodes of Winterwatch there were also some murmurations to admire, but not as astonishing as this one.
Sad story about the police station and their pine trees. However beautiful these swirms are, in great numbers I have seen that these small birds are able to make small trees break and fall under their weight.
Unfortunately the forum does not work well yet. I suppose someone is working on it.

ParticipantHere is a contribution from me about the amazing murmorations of Starling birds.
Yes, I know and have considered, with respect, Starlings can are at times a real a nuisance and an aerial plaque, especially to keepers of livestock etc where they cause havoc, mess etc and really big problems in all sorts of ways.
Here is a video footage of the Starlings in fantastic aerial ballet. No need for ATC (Air Traffic Control) – these creatures do their flights without any collision and perform aerial acrobatics which surpass, with supreme ease, the aerobatics of the worlds foremost aerobatic teams.

ParticipantNot exactly cloud related but something to marvel at. I hppe CAS will allow this posting.
Starlings cause a road block because of gathering in heavy numbers upon a road in Norfolk, UK.
The video is very short.

ParticipantLove it Laurence! Could have been a take from Birds by Hitchcock. Great to see these small birds make traffic stop. Thanks for sharing.
