On Wed August 3, 2016, The Times (UK) print edition, page 19, printed a 15 x 10 cm picture of a cap cloud with the caption ‘Holiday Weather. It was a bright start to the day at Lochaber in the (Scottish) Highlands,…’ To my great surprise I have a watercolour of the same scene (less cloud) hanging in my dining room – it was painted by a late friend, a painting hobbyist who frequented the Highlands, but is unsigned, undated and without any other information either.
It turns out Lochaber is a mountain range around the town of Fort William and the mountain Ben Nevis (though I doubt the mountain in the picture is Ben Nevis). So I thought I would buy a print but can find no trace of the photo on-line nor work out how to buy it. The Times attribute is

There are two smaller photos beneath it included in the attribute. Can anyone trace the Lochaber Cap Cloud for me, please?

Alamy sell stock photographs, so I guess it was one of theirs. If you’ve not done so, I suggest you visit the Alamy site and search on Lochaber. http://www.alamy.com/

Tony, thank you very much indeed – BINGO.
http://www.alamy.com/stock-photo-lochaber-scotland-uk-2nd-august-2016-uk-weather-a-sunny-but-cold-6-113098626.htmlIt is not the exact picture as printed, but the date and wording beneath the photo on the alamy site is convincing enough. As printed (and painted) it has one or two white cottages on the left and smallish trees to the right, but the foreground rock looks much the same as printed. My painting is from further back and has a wider span to left and, particularly, to right.

One more time. Scroll down that alamy link and the white cottage(s) appear. Unfortunately the fuller picture with the cottage is not available for purchase for ‘Personal use’. Such is life.
