Good news for cloud photographers who mourn the passing of Kodachrome 25 and Ektachrome 64 colour slide (reversal) film.
In November 2017 Kodak will re-introduce Ektachrome colour reversal film. It is, so far as I can judge, rated at 100 ASA film speed compared to its former 64 ASA speed.
Here is the “griff”. This, to me, is most heartening news.
This lovely film was “killed off” in 2012 thereabouts – but due to customer demand, especially from professional photographers, inter alia, Kodak have, thanks be, listened and decided to re-introduce this lovely film.
Remember this, when the death knell of vinyl LP’s and players was heralded by the introduction of the CD the recent sales of vinyl LP’s and record players here in the UK have spiralled upward selling literally millions. Even our big supermarket stores sell both items and the demand is very big. I hold the hope that Kodak will re-awaken Kodachrome 25. Who knows?!?
Ektachrome, when I last used it, was 64 ASA film speed and had rather cold colours to it but I loved it. To correct the cold colour hues I used a Hoya 1A or 2A skylight filter and it balanced the colours to that which I most liked. The new Ektachrome is governed at 100 ASA. I hope the new film will exhibit slightly warmer colouring.
