Thank you for launching Volume X with such a great photo, Michael. I keep waiting to see if some clouds will fall through that gap. Love the sense of anticipation. Wait a minute… maybe they did (#102)!

And with Hans’s Footsteps In The Snow and Ruth’s Box of Crayons, it looks like we’re off to a fun start.

Lovely lacunosus, Gregory, and your Evening Guest is a beauty, Ruth. Micheal, #104 has that approaching wave appeal and #105 is simply a roiling joy, despite the darker tones. Pareidolia gets put into play for me as well with an emerging character who looks like he’s crawling his way through an absolute wonderland. Love it!

Wasn’t sure in which topic to share the cloud art adventure below, but color seemed the best choice. The image here is offered purely in the spirit of playful exploration. While its origin is indeed a cloud photo taken in my backyard yesterday morning, it hadn’t snowed here, nor was it a foggy morning, nor do I live next to a cliff. In fact, I was about to toss the original photo (further below) when curiosity led me to wonder if anything interesting might be made of it. The sole reason I’d taken the photo initially was the appeal of that tiny sun bravely peeking through the little opening of light blue sky. In the end, the result of cropping, rotating and inverting the color really surprised me, creating a moody, misty scene that I think I’ll now keep.

That is really fun indeed Keelin to play with color inversion. The white tree branches make it quite spooky. Even apocalyptic. Nice to see the original too of this surprising result.

Arizona Color #106 is a great composition Michael. And I can see the crawling creature Keelin spotted in your #105. It must have been captured from under water imo.

Nice pink waterfalls Ruth. To be sure whether these are anticrepuscular rays one must know the position of the sun. The rays must point to the antisolar point and (so) the sun must have been behind you when you took the photo. That might be the case for we don’t seem to look at the place where the suns sets. Is that right?

Great wooly carpet in #116 Michael.

Ruth, your third example of the pink waterfall triggered a different thought. I see what seems to be sunrays bend to the left and this makes me think the pink waterfalls may be virga. Giving it another look the former two examples also show the bending. When it really is virga, the difference in winds speeds at different height make the falling streaks of virga bend. The setting sun behind you colors the virga nicely pink. What do you think? I now tend to virga.

Michael, I get the feeling of a flying snowball in #115. Could it have come all the way from Ruth’s snowy scene? Also loved your sun-blushed virgo, Ruth. And then there’s the low Mama from Hans. Wouldn’t hurt to be hit by one of those, but wowa!

Thank you, Hans, and I couldn’t agree more about the comfort of images from Michael and Ruth, with Michael’s latest like another soft serenade.

And nice contrast in Borderline?, Hans. To my eye, it brings to mind the initial resistance of sand to sea. I can almost see a reflection of clouds in the remaining wetness of a receding wave, evidence of a little exchange between the solidness of sand and the fluidity of water. On a somewhat related theme, these Cirrus clouds below know how to flow.IMG_9506_A Study Of Contrast In FlexibilityA Study Of Contrast In Flexibility

Thank you, Donatella and Hans! I think that colorful arc is just a bit of lens flare, but there was some coronal/iridescence closer to the sun.

Of course, I never look at the sun when taking photos of optical phenomena, just point and shoot in the general direction and hope for the best. So it’s often a surprise to see what shows up.

Here’s another shot from the series, and I’ve just posted yet another to the Looks Like topic for pure amusement.

Keelin, Your Curtain Call deserves a big applause.  So great to see your capture on the Gallery and Newsletter.  You inspired me today to look up, and as my husband says ” Shoot”.   But, my favorite happens to be Balancing Point.  You did catch a number of species in that beauty.  Clouds bring such simple pleasure.

Ah, thank you, Ruth! It’s the clouds that deserve the acclamation though, and as is the way with such sightings, I was just lucky to be in the right place at the right moment. Only a couple of days before, this beauty appeared in the late afternoon…IMG_9727_Blowin' In The WindBlowin’ In The Wind

Michael, interesting shot of #131.  Not winter here, but that is reminding me of my windshield that needs the ice scraped off.

The Balancing Point is as fantastic as Curtain Call, Keelin. Did you notice the small colorful segment f a 22 degrees halo at the bottom in what started as a contrail? Love it.

Ruth, your Combinations is indeed painterly. Nice view.

Arizona#134 shows a great and fine network of asperitas. It has a lovely soft atmosphere in it.

Michael, #133 and #134 have a soft mood for me.  As usual all pictures create such a story.

Thank you for the refreshing effects of your recent additions, Hans, Ruth and Michael. Cover Up and …Waiting To See My Dentist make me want to stand beneath them and revel in a cool sweep of virga, while #137 feels like the splash I’ve longing for.

Ruth, your serene and lovely Foggy View, featured on the Gallery a few days ago, prompted me to review archives from a trip to Alaska years ago. There, I found this…

Michael, love #137.  Bubbles in a soft drink, refreshing.  Keelin, your Early Morning feels so cool and quiet there in Alaska.  Nice photos.  I am kind if enjoying some more fog.
