ParticipantFabulous to see a Welsh thread, Happy St David’s Day! These were on 9th Feb, Dragon’s Breath with fluctus curling up like tongues, and some stunning cumulus catching the morning sun. Between Abergavenny and Monmouth.

ParticipantSo good to see some sky again today, after all the grey and fog of the last few days. Stopped on the way home from Abergavenny to snap this wild dramatic edge of cloud catching the evening sun, and some lovely cirrus flying free beyond.

ParticipantThat little caterpillar is eye catching but the mammatus takes the biscuit if not the whole packet. An excellent array of clouds over Monmouthshire this Easter, well spotted Angela. Flintshire skies have been dominated by galloping cumulus mostly, must do better…..

Participant- The sunset and the shot of the cloudy fingerprint are poetic. The last misty shot is so evocative of that gentle stillness you suddenly experience in the countryside is beautiful. The horses make it. I’d happily hang that on my living room wall.

ParticipantThis was yesterday evening and taken over the space of just 18 minutes. I noticed some building cumulus with ribbons of pileus on top. They bloomed so fast but were soon obscured by a lower dark layer which became a bit asperitas-y, lovely! But none of the much-needed rain!
Will upload in 2 batches and 🤞they upload in the right order!

ParticipantThis afternoon I stopped on the way to Abergavenny to take a quick pic of this lovely curtain of rainfall. A bit later, on coming out of the supermarket, great cumulus towered above the town. Both photos feature The Blorenge, proudly known locally as “the mountain”. And speaking of which I absolutely cannot resist also uploading this meme..! 😆

ParticipantI’m guessing this busy streaky sky is mostly down to contrails in varying degrees of wear.. a nice contrail shadow in the middle too. And these nice cirrus overhead.. not quite sure what the flying creature is… ice Dragon, perhaps!

ParticipantTerrific cloud shots, so much going on above and near Abergavenny. Changing moods, shapes, colours. I love your description of clouds blooming, like roses. Wish I could upload local skies via my phone but the site just won’t let me. It used to, when we were in the lockdown Wales group, but no longer. Can only upload via my laptop so the spontaneous phone capture/share to CAS has vanished, like Dragon’s Breath🤔
-
June 17, 2023 at 4:47 pm #575719
Angela Swan
ParticipantThanks for your comment, Pam. But what a nuisance you can’t upload images direct from your phone, frustrating – I wonder why. This thread function of the CAS site does behave very differently to our good old Wales group but I can upload from my (Samsung) phone – the process is often a bit clunky (images often failing to upload & need to try a few times) but I get there in the end! I wonder if your local phone shop geeks may be able to help resolve the problem. Or if you have email on your phone you could email the images to yourself, so that they get sent to your laptop.. at least that would be quicker/easier than doing a whole photo download each time! Would be great if you can find a workaround as I miss seeing your skies!

ParticipantI’ve taken heaps of cloud photos on holiday recently & for Cloud Appreciation Day. But uploading multiple images on here is too laborious.. so here’s just one from yesterday. ParticipantWas happily surprised by these asperitas yesterday afternoon. May have been something to do with Storm Agnes.. it got quite blowy later on but not much rain. Taken above my local garage, where I was having my tyres pumped up. The mechanic looked at me like I was a poor old dear who’d lost her marbles when I told him these clouds were a rare sight!

ParticipantAmazing to see these fantastic mamma clouds earlier today, while driving home from Usk. Pulling over to admire them at leisure was an absolute must! Most of the pics are taken wide angle as the “pouches” were so big & covered a wide area of sky. Fabulous sight to see! 🤩

ParticipantHappy St David’s Day 😊 A year since launching this thread and greetings to any who call in! Today in north Wales it’s wet, gloomy and grey with a forecast for snow on the mountains later. The cloud cover where I am isn’t photogenic but part of the tapestry of the year so I’ll take a snap to add to our run. Greetings to fellow cloud lovers wherever you are. Diolch 😊
