      Hi everyone,

the below photos were taken from the top of a hill when a thunderstorm was approaching. I’ve never seen a sky so dramatic! The photos don’t do it justice. I’m pretty sure I can identify some mamma clouds on the centre of the first photo. Any further help identifying anything else would be great :)

Marie, I think you may have caught some Asperities in your first photo.  That would be the wavy clouds in the middle.  Both photos are powerful.  You may appreciate a more experienced observer’s comment.

Hello Marie, that is an amazing sky. Your first picture shows a great arcus. What’s puzzling me are the mamma features. Mamma usually appears at the back of a storm cloud while the arcus is always the front of a storm cloud. Maybe there is someone else who can shine alight on this?

Your second one may looks a bit like asperitas but I don’t think it is. I think we see the turbulent bottom of a storm cloud above.

Both photos are very impressive. Love them.

      Hans

Thanks Hans, that’s really interesting to know – my head was telling me i was witnessing something a little strange but i wasn’t sure what! How intriguing! I think it was probably the most amazing sky i’ve ever witnessed since starting my cloud spotting.

We have had a few thunderstorms lately and below was from the same viewpoint a few days later when there was another thunderstorm…
