Inclement weather was favoured by the nineteenth-century British landscape painter David Cox. Wind, rain, dark skies with churning clouds – these were his forte. While his contemporaries were painting picturesque and tranquil landscapes, Cox stood his ground – not unlike the beast in The Challenge: A Bull in a Storm on the Moor.
The Challenge: A Bull in a Storm on the Moor (c. 1850s) by David Cox is in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, England.
