Sally Sites (Member 65,461) noticed this teeming city of clouds over the south-eastern coast of the US while on a flight to Florida.

Two storm clouds, known as Cumulonimbus calvus, rise like skyscrapers in the downtown neighbourhood. Thunderstorms like these develop as towering Cumulus clouds reach up into air cold enough for their tops to start to freeze into ice crystals. Beneath the skyscrapers of moisture lie parallel lines of Cumulus radiatus, tidy rows of houses in the sprawling suburbs of Sally’s floating city in the sky.
