We would like to wish all of our members who celebrate it a very Merry Christmas and a day of contented cloudspotting to all.
Winter Landscape (late 1640s) by seventeenth-century Dutch artist Aert van der Neer, who always painted well-observed cloud formations in his winter landscapes. Here, he framed the blue with Cumulus congestus on the left, Stratocumulus and Cumulus on the right, Altocumulus above, and Cirrostratus in the distance. It’s what we cloudspotters might call a full house. The artwork is in the collection of the Cincinnati Art Museum, Cincinnati, Ohio, US.
