Planet Saturn – the mighty and majestic Queen of our solar system’s planets here viewed in “her” full splendorous glory.

This image shows Saturn with remarkable bands of clouds and especially the huge aurora atop of its north pole.  The rings girdling the planet in precision are marvellous too – just like a gigantic celestial gramophone record disc.

Image, contained in the link below, comes from NASA’s APOD page released today (3rd September).

Enjoy – as I did too!

Thanks for sharing Laurence. On the pole there is this amazing aurora on a unimaginable scale. Breathtaking.

      Gents,

My pleasure.  I am glad you both derived enjoyment from this marvellous image, as too, I hope, other CAS members.

The aurora above Saturn’s north pole is exceedingly remarkable – it is hexagonal.  The image here shows all:-

By coincidence, NASA, via its APOD page has released today (7th September ’18) this startling image taken atop of Saturn’s north pole.  It shows the magnificent hexagon.  Image, in false colour, was captured in 2012.  The hexagon measures some 30,000kms (18,663 miles) diameter.

Here it is – prepare to be amazed!
