Is this the place where I should ask a dumb newbie question about cloud verification, or is there a private help email where I can humiliate myself less publicly? :-)

Deb,,we were all newbies at one point or another..do you have a pic? Also the gallery has pics of just about every cloud genus and species of genus . Its a good place for visual help. There is also Cloudspotter’s Guide a book that quickly becomes dog ear’ed. Anyway, don’t worry about being humiliated. Its about The Clouds..not us.

Thanks, Michael. Yes, I sure have and use the Guide. It’s wonderful! Since I first posted, my question resolved itself. There was just a 24-hour delay in the “stars” appearing for a cloud I identified, during which I was confused about the way it showed (blue lettered, but no stars). Now I know it’s not necessarily a problem and I should just be patient. Anyway, I’m happily working away on my “Big Ten” and “Eyes to the Sky” badges. Things are looking up, and so am I!

Deborah, I was a bit confused myself early on, This is the forum of the CAS, where CAS members say what they feel like saying, post pics and links, asks questions, etc.
Not every CAS member is a cloudspotter app user and, I think, vice-versa. But there are some cloudspotter app users who participate in this forum. So you have a chance of getting an answer.
However, the cloudspotter app has its own support team, support@cloudspotterapp.com. There is an FAQ page, which you have probably seen:
https://cloudspotterapp.com/faq.html
So for questions like why was my cloud not verified, or technical questions it’s better to contact the support team. For advice and opinions, maybe the Forum is better. Everyone is very nice.
Anyway, welcome, and show us some nice pictures.
PS Yes, badges do not materialize immediately after achievements. Yours came after a while. I had the opposite experience. One of my shots was chosen as photo of the day (in fact many days after I took it). I did not know, so I was very surprised one day when I got the cloud of the day badge. Only to find my picture shown the next day. So the background workings of the app are a bit of a mystery. But it works.

Thank you, George. That’s all very helpful and clarifying. You’re right that the cloudspotter app does seem to work well, albeit a tad mysteriously. And it’s very nice to realize one can can also share photos on this forum. I do have one jaw-dropping one I’m going to go back through my photos and find to post here this weekend. Thanks again.

Hi Deborah
Welcome to the CAS. I hope you find your membership very enjoyable and fulfilling!
May I, please, offer this useful link to the BBC’s Weather Watchers website? It is totally free and, thanks be, devoid of advertising and irksome annoying pop ups. WOW!!!! Registration onto its website is very refreshingly easy – and no commitment.
Here is the link:-

Best wishes.
