Jules-Edmond-Charles Lachaise and Eugène-Pierre Gourdet were painters and illustrators who frequently collaborated on interior decorations for the French monarchy and aristocracy in the second half of the nineteenth century. Their _Design for a ceiling of trompe l’oeil sky _employed a popular technique of the age, giving the illusion of 3D space on a 2D surface to suggest a hole in the ceiling displaying a bright sky of Cumulus clouds.
