Keith Coldron says:
Thanks for your comments Laurence, I know P/O Magee well, he is buried just down the road from home. I did a copy of his poem with a Spitfire superimposed for a friend who also writes poetry.

Laurence Green says:
Keith, I just love this shot totally. It depicts my favourite of all clouds hands down. Ethereal power and majesty with beautiful lighting all rolled into one.
Cloud vistas like this always bring to my mind the touching poem called, “High Flight” written by Pilot Officer John Gillespie Magee Jr who served in the Royal Canadian Air Force under the auspices of the RAF during WW2. Born 8 June 1922 and killed on 11 December 1941 when his Spitfire aircraft collied with an RAF trainer aircraft over Lincolnshire. He bailed out of his stricken craft but being so low to the ground his parachute was unable to open fully. He died at the age of 19 years. He was a poet.
More info including the poem he wrote:-
