At the end of a long day working in a field on the Black Isle, a peninsula in the Scottish Highlands, Mark Chambers (Member 61,520) saw Altocumulus stratiformis radiatus clouds painted bold and vibrant by the ruby hues of the setting Sun. Radiatus clouds like this tend to form in line with the wind direction. They’re aligned parallel to one another – rather like the ridges and furrows of a freshly ploughed field.
